Description: Flathead County Herd District boundaries are created by petition of landowners and declared created and established by the County Commissioners. Legal requirements for the petitioning, creation, size and location of Herd Districts can be found in MCA 81-4-301. Herd district petitions are filed by the Flathead County Election Department. Upon creation of the district, the commissioiners journals are sent to Flathead County GIS Department to be digitized to the Parcel dataset. This data was compiled mostly from commissioners journals stating the creation of a districts, but in some instances old newpaper clippings kept by Flathead County as proof of the creation of a district were considered valid. Herd District boundaries must fall outside the incorporated city limits, but for simplicities sake, they are not clipped to the city limits. User assumes responsibility to display this data with the current city limit data for Flathed County.
